Kendall and Zach are two of the most fun-loving and genuine people I have met. I knew the moment we met them, that I wanted to be a part of their wedding day. They have a classic southern style and they wanted their day to be beautiful. However, their love for one another and the love they share with their families were paramount throughout the planning process, which was evident in so many of the details. These two knew that they wanted to celebrate their commitment to each other, surrounded by the people they love. They also knew they wanted to abandon all pretense and have a down-home wedding and reception that would allow their guests to relax and have a good time. From the back-porch rocking chairs and roaring copper fire bowls with DIY s’mores, to each creative rendition of traditional southern cuisine by the oh-so-creative Jamie Keating Culinary, this wedding day was full of thoughtful southern sweetness all around.

Set at the beautiful, historic, River Mill Event Centre in downtown Columbus, Georgia, this April wedding boasted beautiful spring weather and the gorgeous sunlight that accompanies it. Aside from the natural Spanish moss sweetly draped from the oak trees along the lane, some of my favorite details included the ambient lights against the mill ruins, the barbeque mason jars with cabbage slaw and edamame baked beans (of course the couple insisted that we eat some), and the giant lantern that slowly rose against the building as the dusk fell, mimicking the moonlight through the Georgia pines.

Even more special than the decor was the personal moments of connection throughout the day. I loved that Kendall’s grandmother was by her side all day long and Zach requested a photo with his grandad, who he called his “fishing buddy.” The bride and groom chose not to see one another before their ceremony, but they did sneak a hand squeeze because Kendall said she couldn’t wait any longer just to hear his voice. And if I could only choose one more favorite moment, it would be during the first dances. After the bride and her daddy finished their dance, I looked around in anticipation for Zach and his mom’s dance. He was nowhere to be seen. I didn’t know if he was just another transient groom or what. Just then I felt someone running up behind me. I turned and saw that it was Zach. He had come from the back of the lawn and scooped his unexpecting mother up like a baby. He carried her to the stage and they danced their turn. It gives me chills when love takes center stage on a wedding day. That is what it’s all about.

Check out the super 8mm film trailer by my favorite, Dekmar Films.

And then head on over to Style Me Pretty to see their take on this fabulous event.

The Super 8 is amazing. It reminds me of watching home movies with my parents when I was little.
